Seems the large number of hams in Britain helped create the scientific resources to create a little havoc for the German occupation of Europe. A special office SOE, Special Operations Executive helped do a lot of cloak and dagger stuff in occupied Europe. One operation involved substitution electronic components used in high powered Nazi radio transmitters. Through careful engineering and duplication the Brits were able to manufacture certain parts that would make the transmitters sometimes create a dangerous high voltage standing wave that could shock workers and make them slow to work on their equipment or perform maintenance. Substituting certain parts that seemed within spec when tested but did dangerous stuff, avoided dangerous missions by RAF bombing crews, but still had some effect.
